Over the past weekend Saleen Performance vehicles unveiled their latest high-performance car, the 2011 Saleen Mustang at Carlisle Ford Nationals in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
The S302 may be the first vehicle launched this year by SPV following launches with the Saleen 435S and S281 this past year.
The Saleen S302 is in line with the 2011 Ford Mustang GT using the all-new 5.0-liter V-8 engine. Saleen adds the usual cast of extras including a racecraft suspension, Saleen 20-inch wheels and a host of Saleen interior and exterior enhancements. Saleen has grown horsepower modestly to 425 by incorporating bolt-on's such as an furnace filter and also a performance exhaust system.
"We've taken powerful vehicles to a higher level with this particular S302 Saleen, said Michael Timarac, Brand Manager, Saleen Performance Vehicles.
"The S302 has been built now and will be in dealerships in the coming weeks.
I'm happy with this device and people who value performance vehicles will agree how the S302 is one of the best American exotic vehicles available.Much anticipation had developed since Saleen released its rendering in the proposed 460 Mustang since recently. High of the delay was because of Ford’s new V8 engine that SMS was waiting to switch.
Today, Saleen offiicial unveiled the completion from the renamed 2011 SMS 302 Mustang with the company’s headquarters in Corona, California.
As always, the SMS 302 Mustang comes in multiple engine configurations to your desire. The 2011 SMS 302 Mustang will be offered by 50 percent versions with naturally aspirated and a supercharged engines.
The nautrally aspirated 4V model produces 440 horsepower with only some powertrain tweaks. Along with the supercharged 302SC model produces 535 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque.
So where ever you look, natural power or super power.
This years Ford Saleen Mustang S281 features a supercharged 4.6-liter V-8 that produces 485 horsepower, a bump greater than 150 horses over stock.
The 281 refers back to the engine's displacement in cubic inches.
Besides the more robust powerplant, the S281 features bodywork enhancements that include a whole new hood using a power dome/scoop that accommodates the supercharger, a revised grille,
more aggressive front fascia so they cover for your quarter windows. The S281 also comes with a sport-tuned suspension, beefed-up brakes and larger wheels and tires.
Saleen says the upgrades are great for a 0-60 period of lower than 6 seconds.
Both SMS 302 Mustangs feature a large amount of upgrades such as the new SMS body kit, hood with heat-extracting grilles, 20-inch wheels and tires, upgraded suspension and brakes,
Alcantara seats, 200 mph gauges, and a short-throw shifter.
Saleen claims that the naturally aspirated SMS 302 Mustang can sprint a 0-60 mph inside 4.5 seconds, even though the supercharged 302 Mustang version can sprint in only 4.3 seconds.
In comparison, the standard Ford Mustang GT produces 412 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. It might sprint from 0 - 60 in about 4.5 seconds as well, but costs just about $30,495.
As you can expect from Saleen, prices because of these Mustangs are very expensive when compared to the volume of upgrades which might be done.
The SMS 302 4V Mustang starts at $54,990 and also the SMS 302SC Mustang is approximately $64,990. Ouch, somebody pinch me!
What about a 2010 Roush Mustang with 540 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque for approximately $48,000 or Ford Mustang GT premium for $32,000, anyone?
For all those kind of prices, a bit more power for the SMS 302 Mustang couldn’t hurt.
